Skin issues don’t always come up with pain, itchiness, or swelling. However, there are times when the dermis is sending signals to you. These signals come in the form of redness, pain, soreness, and even flaking. In the case of skin tags, you may not immediately feel any pain or issues. However, if you do in fact feel something is awry, you will need to get a helping hand in fixing the problem. It’s important to understand the definition of tags, and why they appear before panicking or calling your doctor. In most instances, you will find that these are not worrisome, and are triggered by things you can easily fix or change. However, in rare cases, they may be extreme and pain can set in. Figuring out why that is, starts with understanding some simple information about what these are and how they are dealt with.
Understanding Skin Tags (The Basics)
First of all, you need to understand that these small growths are not cancerous. They are benign in most instances, and they are not going to cause any major issue at first. They can be unsightly, they can appear at random, and be deformed. However, they are nothing to worry about in most instances. They do not hurt, normally.
Tags grow as a result of skin rubbing against itself in a crease, fold, or as the result of posture. You may sit down and your stomach may fold over a little, causing it to rub against other dermal tissue. That tissue can get irritated and cause collagen to force a growth to form. This can seem like a zit at first glance, but it’s not going to have a head to pop or anything like that. As stated above, it’s not going to be painful, in most cases.
Skin Tags That Hurt
You may have tags that are appearing and they hurt, or are swollen. In that instance, you’re going to find that the issue may be a result of HPV, or an allergic reaction to shaving, precious metals, or your clothing. If the tag starts to bleed, or puss, then it’s not a skin tag, and you’re dealing with something that requires medical attention.
Now, if you start to feel it itch, it may be a reaction to the clothing you’re wearing rubbing it and causing it to itch. If you itch it once, you’re going to do it again and cause it to get sore and even swell. It’s advisable not to touch any growths, or try to pull on it or even wear clothing that is going to itch the growth.
Getting Help
There are many self-care options that you can use to remove tags, but if you feel pain or itching from the growth, make sure that you seek help. A dermatologist can test to see if there’s an infection in the skin, and prescribe medication to help heal the issue. Getting a helping hand with this isn’t complex, and in most instances, it’s a problem that is due to allergic reaction and not something too severe. Only a doctor can state for sure, however.
