Skin tags may form in a variety of places on the body. You can see them come through on the neck, waistline, groin area, and even under arms and eyelids. One area that you may not expect them to form, but is somewhat common is that of rectal or anal tags. These are tags that hang off of the anus, and rectal area, and can be somewhat uncomfortable. Understanding what skin tags are, and what you need to do to remove them can be easy, if you just focus on a few simple classifications.
What Are Skin Tags?
In order to understand rectal tags, you’ll first need to understand what tags are and why they form. These are benign growths that proliferate the top layer of skin, usually one by one, and are irritated tissue. These skin elements pop up due to friction between skin cells. When skin rubs against itself, it sends collagen that rises from the top layer of the skin. That creates a small, irregular mound, and you’ll find that it is not painful, and may be easy to remove, within reason.
Skin tags form due to friction, and may be the result of weight gain, weight loss, heredity, HPV infection, and allergic reaction to detergent, precious metals, or even clothing that is far too tight. Overall, you’re not going to have to worry about most skin tags, as they are non-cancerous tissue growths that do not hurt, and are more cosmetic than anything else. In rare instances, you may need to see a doctor to diagnose the root cause, but often it’s just a matter of friction, and nothing more.
What About Rectal Skin Tags?
Rectal skin tags occur outside of the anus, and hang over the skin. They are not the same as warts, piles, or even lesions. Many people assume that they have something worse than it actually is because of the location. However, warts and skin tags are not the same, but may seem to be similar. Tags on the anus will not hurt, they do not bleed, and are nothing more than simple cell overgrowths.
They can be removed by a doctor, or by topical solutions. Many people opt to get an opinion from a doctor since they are located in a soft, hard to reach area for some. In the case that you do decide to visit a doctor, they will use cryotherapy or lancing techniques to remove the tag. This takes a short amount of time, does not hurt, and will be easy to get done.
If you want a home remedy, you can use hemorrhoid cream directly on the tag itself. In a matter of weeks that cream will help the tag dry up and fall away. However, it may not work in every instance, and therefore you may need to call a doctor. Test this methodology out for a few weeks, and see if it works. In many instances, it does in fact work due to the active ingredients associated with rectal skin tags. Again, they are benign, harmless, but can be somewhat uncomfortable due to the location.
