Are skin tags caused by a sexually transmitted disease (STD)?

There are a lot of different things that can irritate the skin. YOu may be feeling that issue right now. A rash, acne, or any number of issues could give you redness, bumps, and more. But what about skin tags? These are something that you will no doubt have to deal with, but there’s a twist, they don’t hurt, they don’t bleed, nor do they behave like a lot of other issues that may come on the skin. The bigger picture here is worth taking a look at, especially since some tags are associated with sexually transmitted disease. Don’t panic, there’s more information on this that you should know about.

What Exactly Are Skin Tags?

Skin tags are small, benign growths on the skin. They come up due to a rush of collagen through the skin. Whenever the skin cells rub against one another, they start to form small elements that are not cancerous, and are not harmful. It’s imperative that you do not scratch, or try to remove them by yourself, as they are not the same as acne, or anything like that. In fact, they are not going to hurt necessarily, but they may be a sign of a bigger issue. In this case, you may ask yourself if it’s a matter of sexually transmitted disease, and the short answer, is yes. However, not all skin tags are associated with this problem. Most people have skin tags because of obesity, weight loss, weight gain, or any sort of friction where the skin rubs against itself.

What About Sexually Transmitted Infection?

The major issue of skin tags and sexually transmitted illness relates to HPV. HPV stands for human papillomavirus, and if contracted through sexual contact, the resulting symptoms could very well be a matter of skin tags. However, these tags only appear on the groin, and genitals. There’s an interesting element here, because you need to understand that not all skin tags are in fact tags, they may be warts. HPV associated tags are commonplace in the groin and genitals, but so are warts. Either way, if you have any sort of growth on your groin and genitals, it’s important to ask a professional’s opinion as to what’s going on.

HPV Treatments

You can get the skin tags associated with HPV removed through a variety of methods. Your doctor can remove them in the office, or they can give you a topical cream that will help you with removal. However, that doesn’t cure HPV. There is no cure to this issue, but you may be able to get a prescription medication that will control outbreaks. You’ll need to be careful when an outbreak comes out as you can pass this issue onto someone else through unprotected sex. Treatments are not intrusive, but you will need a proper diagnosis to ensure that you do in fact have HPV and not another disease. Either way, you’ll find that you can get a helping hand in removing skin tags on the genitals, and groin area. Don’t panic.
