Skin tags can come out of nowhere. They occur when friction happens in the dermis. Whenever dermis rubs against itself, you’ll find that there’s a small plateau that comes up. Tags are irregular shaped raised elements, that will not bleed, will not discharge, and will not hurt. The common areas where skin tags may appear include the nose, ears, neck, waistline, under arms, under breasts, and even the pubic area. But the genitals are not commonly a place where skin tags can form, but it can happen. It’s important to understand this in contrast to warts, as the two are easy to mistake.
The Root Causes of Skin Tags
Skin tags are interesting in that they are often just cosmetic issues. People of all ages may get this, and it’s something that can go away with a variety of different solutions. They come up without much notice. The root cause is associated with the friction that occurs with skin rubbing against other elements. For instance, under the arms skin rubs against itself when walking, or moving. The genitals can also rub against themselves, or have creases, wrinkles, and stretching with weight gain, etc.
The causes of tags aside from dermal friction could be medical in nature. Some of the medical problems include obesity, diabetes, HPV infection, allergic reaction to precious metals, and pregnancy. These can be underlying causes for skin tags, but it’s not always the case overall. A doctor can diagnose the issue if they are in fact these elements, but often, it’s not that serious.
Genital Skin Tags In Brief
Skin tags may form around the pubic region, and in some instances on the genitals. However, there’s a fine line between this and warts. Genital warts may multiple overnight, and out of nowhere. Tags do not. Tags are solitary in nature, and usually not close in proximity. On the genitals, if you have several tags coming up, you may be seeing warts and lesions appear. These are issues that are related to sexually transmitted illness. When you have a sexually transmitted issue, the skin around the genitals will break out with tags, warts, and lesions. These will hurt, they will discharge, bleed, and cause issues for just about anyone.
Removing Genital Skin Tags
If you have tags that are on the genitals, visit a doctor. They will be able to tell you whether it’s due to sexually transmitted disease or it’s due to regular dermal friction. If there’s nothing wrong, and it’s just a matter of dermal irritation, they can remove the tags and that’s it. If the issue is in fact an STI, then you’ll need to get a treatment that will reverse the issue and help you keep from having out breaks. You will also need to make sure to abstain from sexual activity for some time. Either way, skin tags are normal. Warts, lesions, and other elements may look kind of like them, but they are not the same. Tags don’t usually multiply, hurt, bleed, itch, or discharge. That’s a good rule of thumb to remember.
