Skin tag formation is something that millions of people will deal with today. There are currently more than 3 million individuals in the United States alone that will need to focus on this, and figure out how to remove them. While they are not something that hurt, cause cancer, or are in any way dangerous, they are unsightly, therefore may require a helping hand in removal, especially if they are in certain areas. For women, after a episiotomy, tags my form after recovery. Dealing with tag formation can be difficult at first glance, but there are things that can be done to ensure that things heal properly after the fact.
Why Do Skin Tags Form?
First and foremost, it’s important to realize why skin tags form. The main reason why they come through the skin is friction. During pregnancy, the skin will stretch, hormones will shift, and cellular elements in the dermis will send collagen to form a small growth across the body. Because of this, the tag formation will form a small plateau and will cause the tag to show up through the top of the dermis. Friction is the main culprit, however. As the skin stretches, there are creases and folds surrounding various parts of the body, which is the main issue that most people will have to deal with.
In the case of episiotomy, child birth can cause a fluctuation in hormones, and can even cause tags to form near the pubic region and around the anus and vagina. Again, these are not harmful, and will not cause any issue, but they are unsightly. It’s important not to itch, scratch, or try to pull these, as it will hurt overall.
Dealing With Skin Tags
As the body recovers from child birth, you’ll need to focus on just that. Just recovering from the process is going to take time. Beyond that, the incision that is made in order to have a episiotomy will need healing as well. This is going to take time to work through, and the best thing to do is wait. This may not be the best answer you want, but it’s the truth. You’ll need to wait for things to heal properly.
Once you’re done healing, get checked out by a doctor. A doctor will see the progression of the healing, and will note whether or not you have skin tag growth. If you do, they can remove them in office, or they can prescribe a medication that you can apply topically. In most instances, you can apply a cream to the tags and they will fall off naturally.
Time Is Needed
Overall, skin tags take time to remove. After delivering a baby, the body is going to go through some transitions, and recover from the process. This is something that needs to take precedent. Do not worry about tags immediately, but rather let the body recover from the birth. Over time, you’ll find that the cut will heal, the vagina and anus will regain dexterity, and tags can be dealt with then. Whether you want to use a topical solution, go to a doctor to get them removed, or just want to get a second opinion, time is what you’ll need.
